Zoo-mania

We headed a short distance to Omaha, Nebraska for our quick, mini trip. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Sometimes, "a get out of Dodge trip" is just what the doctor orders. I had been under some deadlines and it was a nice stress reliever. I came home from the salon and it was a race to see who could pack the quickest.

Our first stop was the IMAX theatre at the Henry Doorly Zoo. The ocean in 3D was playing. AMAZING! I got tickled watching the kids try to reach for the fish. I felt like I was snorkeling.
Next, we went to the Butterfly house. I think it is fairly new to the zoo. All around you were butterflies and you could watch some come out of their chrysalis. In the desert dome...I got frightened by the bats in the basement. They are so creepy. My husband ran his finger lightly by my ear and I about jumped out of my skin. Huge tears formed in my eyes...I thought the bats were attacking me. They were fruit bats and really had no interest in me.
This guy is taking it easy!
Striking a pose!

Can you believe a mama seal and her pup?
What is a zoo trip without a train ride? We also rode on the new Sky Safari. It looks like a ski lift and takes you across the zoo grounds. Wow, a great view of the animals from above!

All the bears were sleeping, including the Sun Bear.

This ape cracked me up. You can't tell who is in the cage...the people or the gorilla.

I like the otters and these 2 were in love! I remember and old Captain and Tenille song called "Muskrat Love". This must be muskrat Suzy and muskrat Sam from the song.

Peacocks or Pea Hens...I would love to have a feather!
There is so much pride taken in caring for the zoo grounds. Every area is beautiful. No wonder this zoo is ranked right under the San Diego Zoo. I prefer the Omaha Zoo over the San Diego. I saw so many animals and it is easy to get around. Plus, it has a petting zoo, train, carousel, and Sky Safari.

Elephants playing a little ball!
In the middle of this picture is a baby penguin. Who is as tall as his mother. He is brown and fuzzy. I watched his mother feed him.
I think the ocean exhibit is one of my favorites at the zoo. My daughter touched a horseshoe crab and my son stood for 30 minutes watching the sea horses. It is magical. If you don't like ocean exhibits...no worries. The Omaha Zoo has a Desert Dome, a Rainforest (all four layers to walk through), a butterfly house, a parakeet perch plus all the animals you typically see at a zoo.
Farewell from my zoo crew!
